Identity Matters started as a University brief. It began with portraits, evolved into illustrations, and eventually became a series of sustainable fashion campaigns and corporate workshops. The project aimed to break stereotypical views of young people of colour in the UK.
It did far more than that. The principles shaped corporate away days where teams built humility, reflection and empathy through portrait work they could take home. This created a lasting legacy across the Arts and Cultural Sector in Bristol.
I trained teams using the same principles I used to develop the portraits in the studio: humility, reflection and empathy. These principles built stronger teams and better leaders.
This work continues to highlight the importance of history and heritage as foundations for self knowledge.
The initial title for the BBC article was "Young Black Men "Shatter" Stereotypes", I liked that title, felt more fitting.
